Design Process

My design methodology stems from the Double Diamond Process introduced by the British Design Council. I resonate with this framework as I feel it captures the main objectives that a UX/UI designer must achieve when developing any product for any stakeholder. The steps are as follows:

Discover

This is all about identifying the main problems and current frustrations. By gathering various types of data through UX research, and empathizing with our users, we can seek to better discover what the challenge is, and how to solve it.

Define

Here, we synthesize all that data and determine what our our feature priorities are and what requirements are needed in order to achieve the goals of our users.

Develop

This is all about exploration. Taking all what we know and creating concepts that are ambitious and tangibly empathize with our users' needs.

Deliver

Test, iterate, and redesign. This stage is all about user feedback and realizing the true vision for the product. Here we learn more about what works best and what doesn't resonate with our users.

About

Who am I?

Good question. That's something I’ve pondered for quite a long time. On the surface, I’m a self-proclaimed nerd 👾 with a deep love for video games 🎮, technology 📱, and psychology 🧠. I’m someone who finds joy in exploring new worlds, whether they exist in the pixels of a game or in the intricate workings of the human mind. I’m also someone who thrives on staying active, trying out new foods, and constantly pushing myself to learn and grow.
But beyond those interests, there’s a more personal side to my story. I’m someone who, for a long time, felt unsure about where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do with my life. Despite my passions, I found myself on a path that didn’t quite feel like mine—a path where I was walking along but never saw myself actually moving forward in a sense.

I’ve always been drawn to solving problems, thinking critically, and finding creative solutions. Yet, for a while, I struggled to find a way to align these strengths with a career that truly resonated with me. This disconnect led to a period of soul searching and self-discovery, where I had to confront the reality that I wasn’t fully living as my authentic self.

The Nursing Years

Coming from a family that works in health care, it seemed natural to pursue a career in nursing. The prospect of being a registered nurse was appealing since it is recognized as prestigious, impactful, and undoubtedly rewarding. But as I progressed farther in my nursing school, I began to feel like a fish out of water. The hands-on and technical nature of the medical field clashed with my inherent love for technology and creativity. The experience of being a nurse and all what came with that just didn't resonate with who I am at my core—which is an enthusiastic gamer, a tech nerd, and an individual who finds joy in solving problems through innovation. I struggled not just with the nursing skillset but with my own self worth being in this program. Admittedly during this period in my life, there were many times when I doubted myself so deeply - even questioning whether I was cut out for university at all…

The Big UX Leap Forward

After three long years of studying nursing while battling self-doubt and feeling out of place, I made the brave decision to pivot my career. It wasn’t easy to leave behind something I had invested so much in (I was one year away from graduation!) but I knew deep down that nursing wasn’t where my heart was. When I changed my major to interactive systems design, I felt an immediate shift. The creative freedom, the opportunity to make a difference through technology, and the ability to truly empathize with users—all of this felt like a breath of fresh air. I remember completing my first year in the program, and feeling like I was finally walking forward again, that the path I was on had gave me a sense of purpose and the confidence I once had. And so, three years later I graduated with a degree with great distinction—an accomplishment that reflects an average of over 85%— something I never could have dreamed of achieving in nursing.

So… Where are you now?

Today, I’m a proud junior UX/UI designer and recent graduate from the University of Saskatchewan, driven by a deep passion for continuous growth and learning. The journey that brought me here wasn’t always easy, but it was through those challenges that I learned one of life’s most valuable lessons: true happiness and fulfillment comes from within and from aligning what you do with who you really are!

As I look ahead, I’m excited to embrace new opportunities, refine my skills, and develop new ones along the way. My goal is to lead projects that create meaningful technology and make a tangible impact on the world. But in the mean time, I'm going to keep on walking down this path! …with occasional pit stops to maintain my 400+ day streak on Duolingo. 🦉🟢
